Family photos are among the most commonly cherished possessions, but they are seldom cared for properly.

The two biggest destroyers of old photographs are improper framing and storage in damp basements or attics.

SOME TIPS ON PHOTO PRESERVATION:
Use a mat when framing to prevent the photo from sticking to the glass in humid weather. Display photos out of direct light. Ultraviolet rays from sunlight will destroy them

STORE your photos in a center hall closet on the main floor of the house. Both the basement and attic cause dampness, an enemy of photographs.

PLACE each rare photo in its own protective cover. Store in archival boxes or albums.

DO NOT use magnetic album pages...the pictures often get stuck to the adhesive which will deteriorate the photo over time. Use polyethylene or polyprophylene sleeves not polyvinyl chloride (PVC).

PHOTOS copied on (RC) Resin Coated paper are not archival and may not be here for future generations.
